Mad for March

When you hear the word March, what is one of the first things that come to mind if you’re a sports fan? Exactly, March Madness is almost upon us! The top college basketball teams in the country are slated to compete in the 68-team tournament, which begins on March 19. For sports fans, this is the Mecca of competitive entertainment – so many games, so many close finishes!

March also brings Louisiana High School postseason basketball. The brackets for both boys’ and girls’ basketball have been released, and we are beyond excited for the tournament. The semi-finals rounds of the tournament are underway this weekend with regionals in Hammond, Lake Charles and Bossier City, and the Top 28 Championship Finals for all divisions are slated for March 6 through March 9 in Monroe.

Nothing tests the grit of a young athlete like the winding seconds of a close basketball game. Unlike football and baseball which have many breaks in action, the sport of basketball almost never stops. The fast-paced sport is such an emotional one, and that is why it is so fun to watch it at an amateur level. The boys and girls that will compete in this year’s Top 28 Tournament have one goal in mind: to bring home a state championship to their school. High school athletics is sporting at its purest form.

The LHSAA would like to wish everyone participating in the tournament the best of luck, and we hope the experience is an enjoyable one for all players, coaches and fans. Remember to check out the Brackets & Results section of our website frequently to see how your team is faring.
